Picher-Cardin High School, located at 715 West A Street, Picher, Oklahoma, was a public high school that served the community of Picher. The school has a notable historical significance as part of the Picher-Cardin School District. However, due to environmental concerns related to lead and zinc mining activities in the area, which led to severe pollution, Picher was largely evacuated, and the school ultimately closed in 2009. The contamination made the town unsafe for residents, resulting in the disbandment of the local school district. Consequently, students from Picher-Cardin High School had to attend schools in neighboring districts. The site is now part of the Tar Creek Superfund site, one of the largest and most complex environmental cleanup projects in the U.S. The town of Picher has since become a ghost town, with most structures either demolished or left abandoned.
